Say Goodbye to 1 and 1

Each season brings a wrinkle or two to the rules.

Sometimes, the change is subtle.  A couple of seasons ago, a secondary 20 second reset on the shot clock was introduced.

This season, the change affects the officials, players, scoreboard operators, public address announcers, and official scorers.  This is a big change.

The 7 team foul bonus (1 and 1), and 10 team foul double bonus rules have been eliminated from the game!

On the fifth team foul in each quarter, two (2) free throws will be awarded.  At the end of the quarter, the team fouls totals are cleared, the count begins anew.

The Return to Division 2

This season, the MIAA realigned its divisions based on current student enrollment.  For Hingham High, this means a return to Division 2.  The exceptions are Boys Hockey and Lacrosse which will remain in Division 1.

The Patriot League is a Division 2 conference.   It consists of two Divisions; the Keenan (Marshfield, Duxbury, Plymouth North, Silver Lake, Whitman-Hanson, and Hingham), and the Fisher (Scituate, Quincy, North Quincy, Pembroke, Hanover, Plymouth South).

Conference play is a home and home series with each team in your division and one game with each team in the opposite division.  Home court in the opposite division switches from season to season: a total of 16 games.

In previous seasons, the non-conference portion of the schedule would feature Division 1 opponents.  This season, there is only one game; a Hingham Holiday Derby as Notre Dame Academy will drive up Main St to visit the High School on  Thursday, December 28th.  This a varsity only contest with a 6:00 pm tap.

The other non-conference portion of the schedule comes at the end of season as the Harborwomen look to defend their title at the Weymouth Family Tournament.  The games are scheduled for Sunday, February 18th and Monday, February 19th 2024 at Weymouth High School.

Once again this season, the home and home with Whitman-Hanson will feature a varsity doubleheader.  This means that the Freshmen will travel to Whitman-Hanson on the fifth January, while JV and Varsity remain at home.  Likewise, on the second February, the Freshmen will play at home, while the JV and Varsity travel.

So there it is, 3 pre-seasons games, 16 conference games, 1 non-conference in season game, and the end of season two game tournament: a 19 game schedule.

Let's go!
